TOBIN WHIFFS 20 AS PCA WINS

DOVER — Portsmouth Christian began their run to defend the Division IV baseball championship Thursday afternoon in the first round with a dominating pitching performance from USA MAVERICK Wes Tobin to down Profile, 3-0.

Tobin threw a one-hitter with 20 strikeouts and one walk for the No. 3 Eagles (13-4). He retired the No. 14 Patriots (5-12) in order in the final four innings.

LEE — By the slimmest of margins, the Oyster River High School baseball team survived the first round of the Division II tournament.

Oyster River sophomore lefty, USA MAVERICK, Brennen Oxford pitched a complete-game shutout with 10 strikeouts, including the side in order in the bottom of the seventh inning as his team clung to a one-run lead. He surrendered two hits and two walks and retired the side in order in the fourth and the sixth.

DOVER RIDES 6-RUN FIRST INNING TO QUARTERFINALS

DOVER — Do the little things right and good things happen.
The Dover High School baseball team did the little things in the first inning of its Division I first-round playoff game with No. 12 Nashua South and it added up to a big 6-2 win.

The Green Wave (12-7) scored six runs on five hits and two South errors in the first and junior righty, USA MAVERICK, Griffin Young did the rest, holding the Panthers to two unearned runs on five hits.
