2014-2015 Coaching Staff

The USA Mavericks Baseball Club program would like to announce new additions to their 2014-2015 coaching staff. 

Portsmouth, NH native and current Pittsburgh Pirate Mike Fransoso highlights the incoming staff. Fransoso is joined by Mike Cappiello, Ryan Coppinger, Joe Dee, Greg Dubela, BJ Gagnon, Dan Mariotti, Steve Miller and Patrick Wormel.

Fransoso is a 2009 graduate of Portsmouth High School and 2013 grad from the University of Maine. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 27th round of the 2013 MLB draft. Mike was a two time First Team All-State shortstop at Portsmouth High (08, 09), First Team America East (12), America East Player of the Year (13) as well as a Louisville Slugger All-American(13). Mike was a 2013 NY-Penn League All-Star playing for the Pirates Rookie Affiliate, Jamestown Jammers. Fransoso will work with Coach Dee on the USA Maverick/USA Training Center winter Infield clinics, coach infield with all Maverick Club teams and is available for private hitting lessons.

Cappiello was a 4-year starting first basemen at Plymouth State University where he was a big part of producing the program’s best record since 2009 in 2012. He currently holds the career Doubles Record of 46 and is in the Top 10 for Career Batting Average (.378) and Homeruns (14).

Coppinger was an original member of the first USA Mavericks baseball team and played in the program for 6 years. He was a three-time First Team All-State selection at St. Thomas Aquinas and as a member of the 2013 Canisius College MAAC Conference Championship team gained an All-Tournament selection. Ryan is currently on the coaching staff of the Seacoast Mavericks.

Dee is headed into his 13th year as the Head Coach of the Laconia Post 1 Legion Baseball team. His teams have had 8 consecutive winning seasons. He has had 4 former players chosen in the MLB draft and 82 former players move on to play college baseball.

Dubela was a member of the 2008 Portsmouth American Legion Post 6 State Championship team and he is the All Time wins leader at Daniel Webster College. He was a 2013 First Team New England Collegiate Conference pitcher and Division III First Team All-New England.

Gagnon has coached the Rochester Post 7 Legion club for the past seven years winning the State Championship in 2013. His past coaching stops include Southern NH University and Belmont Abbey in Charlotte, NC. He was a 3-time Class L 1st Team All-State shortstop at Spaulding High School and was honored with the NH Class L Player of the Year in 2000. He continued his career at Bryant College and played in the 2004 College World Series and was named to the All-World Series team. At Bryant he was a 3 -time All-Northeast 10 Conference shortstop

Mariotti was a four-year varsity player for Coe-Brown Academy and played 1st base at the University of New Haven until an arm injury ended his college career. Dan has been an active volunteer with Rye Little League as both a coach and umpire. He attended the Little League International Umpiring School in Bristol, CT and has served as the Umpire in Chief for Rye Little League since 2011. Dan also coached the 2012 11/12 year old All-Star team and managed the 2014 9/10 year old All-Star team.

Miller is another original USA Maverick player, a four year player at Exeter High School(2010 grad), four years with Exeter Post 32 Legion team and a member of the UNH Club baseball team. He’s been the Senior Babe Ruth coach for Exeter for the last three years.

Wormel graduated from Marshwood High in 2007, where he was a three-sport scholar-athlete. Patrick attended the University of Tampa. While at Tampa he assisted the head sport performance coach for the Spartans Division II athletic teams. He has worked with a variety of age groups ranging from youth to collegiate athletes including Tampa’s 2013 Division II National Championship team. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach.

Returning USA Maverick coaches include Paul Gregoire, Brent Bergeron, Jeff Jackson, Charlie Spear, Rich Ruff, Dave Hoyt, Charlie Jones, Kike Calero, Jayson Whitehouse, Mike Whitehouse, Dave Adam and Matty Doxter.
